![]() Like many other Thousand Trails in Florida, Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina is mostly RV sites, but there are some tiny homes for rent, as well as semi-permanent park model RVs. Folks with longer stays may have additional options? Others in the park staying for the season mentioned it was working pretty well for them. The RV resort does offer a paid WIFI service, and we tried using that for one week, but we did not have a great experience with it. The best cell coverage we got was about one bar from T-Mobile, so we used our iPhones as mobile hotspots. Luckily, we knew this in advance, and planned to mostly take time off during our visit, and minimize our time online. But it is always a good idea to check on current policies before shipping, as rules can change at any time without notice.Ĭellular coverage is not great in this area, so our internet connectivity via cellular was definitely below average. Thousand Trails Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina was accepting packages and mail while we were staying there. We had arranged for two electric bikes to be shipped to the Fedex store in Marathon, and a Fedex driver actually delivered to them directly to the campground. It’s worth a drive to try some of them out. With Thousand Trails Sunshine Key RV Resort centrally located, you can be at the most popular places within an hour or so, in normal traffic. Within a two hour drive you can be just about anywhere in the Florida Keys. The temperatures during our recent two week stay (in late December 2021) were pretty consistently around 80F for the daytime high, and low 70s F at night. The weather in the Keys is pretty consistent year round, being so close to the equator, with a tropical island climate. Over the years, we have also done parasailing in Key West, and snorkeled out in the open waters from a boat out of Key Largo. We went on a really great clear kayaking tour in Islamorada. Nearby waters are good for snorkelers, divers, and fishermen.You can take guided tours, or rent a boat, jet ski or kayak all throughout the keys. Here you will find a nice beach of their own, a marina with boat rentals available, swimming pook, mini-golf, restaurant, bar, and recreational-vehicle rentals. This RV park is farther up the Keys, about 14 miles from Key West. Sugarloaf Key Resort KOA Kampground – 251 County Road 939, Summerland Key ![]() There you will find over 200 RV sites with hookups, a heated swimming pool, a small marina with ramp, four bath houses, laundry facilities, and a Key West bus stop at the front gate. ![]() You can’t do better than Boyds for RV camping. Also, due to the cramped nature of many Key’s roadways, especially Key West, it is very handy to have a good, working, rear view camera.Īs for campground, here are a couple of good ideas.īoyds Campground located at 6401 Maloney Ave, Stock Island If you are coming, make arrangements well ahead of time. Anyone using a storm drain to dump their holding tank will face severe fines. ![]() Also, the Keys are a no discharge zone, meaning that RVs, as well as boats, must pump out their holding tanks at approved facilities. Key West does not permit recreational vehicles to camp overnight on city streets, and so must find a “home”. The popularity of RV camping combined with the scarcity of land in the Keys creates a shortage of good options for the recreational vehicle travelers. ![]()
